The art of Tuxedo

A lot of men in India dread the idea of attending a black tie dinner. However, it’s very simplistic. All you need is the right tuxedo.

Get it custom-made!

The best bet is to get it customised so that it fits you well. If you are buying it off the rack then get it altered so that just the right length of the shirt cuff is visible. Opt for a conventional peak lapel or the more dandy shawl lapel. Also the tux shirt is of paramount importance. This fall, designers like Troy Costa have come out with quilted and pin-tucked shirts which beautifully complement the suit jacket. Also, a black velvet or silk bow-tie can take the ensemble to another level or you could opt for a black tie.

This fall designer Paul Smith has come out with slim-fit wool blend tux while Valentino has an option is beautiful navy. Alexander McQueen offers a navy slim-fit wool and Mohair blend while Saint Laurent gives a more contemporary slim-fit textured wool tuxedo blazer. If you are dandy enough then there’s an option in tone of burgundy too like Richard James’ take on the classic.

Accessorise it well

For the great finish complete the tux look with a set of nifty accessories – sterling silver cuff links, black patent derby shoes and a pocket square.
