Thank God there was no Kolkata chromosome this time! No geeky glasses and no muted palette – Sabyasachi’s tried-and-tested signature layered ensembles. Sabya’s LFW finale show was modern, contemporary and a refreshing depiction of our regal past with a trendy twist. His modern day princess wears a jewel-toned embroidered sari with a tennis tee and vintage glares. She looked like someone who was in between two high tea dos, had enjoyed her afternoon enjoying a game of tennis and also managed to attend a race course polo match – all this without an eyelash out of place! Sabya’s bride wears a sequinned sculpted lehenga accentuated by a belt at the waist for the big finish. Her day look is a floral jacket and an embroidered skirt and she completes her look with a pair of matching floral shoes.
The best part about the show were the soul-searing floral prints which were accentuated by the models’ plum lips, messy-yet-neat hair-dos and smokey eyes. My fave piece was a sequinned sherwani which was elegantly draped by a sheer dupatta and the look was completed with a pair of sequinned booties. However, a lot of pieces looked like they were flown from Sabya’s couture collection which he showcased at Delhi couture week.
However, a great end to the five-day fashion extravaganza!
