Designer Monisha Jaising’s bride wears a long jersey dress with flats on a regular day, goes to exotic cruise vacations and lives a spa-tastic life. Her recent collection at couture week in Delhi traced her ultimate journey to a dreamy destination.
The luxe-lit line evoked childhood dreams of a romantic fairytale. Jaising’s trademark elegant silhouettes, softly sculpted silks, luxurious velvet and fitted French lace accentuated the resort collection. Intricately beaded bodices were paired with ‘Handsome Prince’ sherwanis; leggings with jewels exude this old world glamour, with a hint of bohemian beauty.
The queen of evening wear showcased an aesthetic which was strong, sexy and quintessentially feminine. Monisha’s signature body con floor length dresses adorned with placement oriented crystals brought to mind a modern bride who has a strong sense of identity and is not afraid to express her sensuality. She is someone who appreciates romantic detailing on a relaxed silhouette.
The looks that stood out from the show: a neon one-shouldered embellished gown which was slashed at the thigh and a sherwani tunic with embellishments on the hemline worn with leggings and flats.
Cynics may argue that this wasn’t a collection meriting a couture platform but I honestly feel couture doesn’t mean covering a garment with mounds of sequins. A quiet, restrained glamour is where the true beauty and style take birth.
